 We also
need to use our Newsletter to keep listeners
 updated.

Thanks, Steve, for airing several concerns which
 have weighed on my mind.
 I’m also concerned about the
alienation of regular listeners who, as you point out, are
from overseas and around the country as well as our own
backyard. During our Great Leap Forward, Zetta will serve
prerecorded (often numbingly repetitive) music programs when
they attempt access to their programming of choice. I expect
that listeners will be more understanding and willing to
return to the WNUR fold if clued in on the changes.
Explanatory notes on the Web site can be supplemented by a
battery of special PSAs in frequent rotation about the
alteration in schedule. These measures wouldn’t completely
solve the problem of disorienting faithful listeners but
would help reassure them of the return to live shows after
the implementation of changes which should benefit us
 all.
 No doubt I’m
not the first person who thought of these simple things
but…just sayin.’ Here’s to mo’ better WNUR down the
 road.

 Thanks
for the note on the upcoming changes. While it clarifies
some things, it leaves others unclear.
 I
apologize if I have somehow missed prior communication
elsewise, but I am surprised to have gotten the unexpected
news from Gabe rather than from you or any other Exec Board
 member and equally bewildered that
more advance notice was not possible. Trying to schedule our
DJs to keep our slot fully manned for the quarter has been
impacted by this development; advance notice would made it
unnecessary to rearrange travel and other activities around
 our commitments to the station.
 And
I don't understand at all why,  when the entire
facility was moved to Louis a decade or more ago with an
interruption of less than a day, that live broadcasting
needs to be cut for a month or more.
 I've
seen no mention as to whether or how these changes will
affect streaming. While we are clearly a regional over the
air broadcaster responsible to our local community, we have
listeners across the country and all over the world. Will
they be hearing the limited, repeated programming when they
tune in? Can't any of the other studios spaces be used
to keep current content streaming from our URL? And I've
seen no mention of this on the WNUR website, where I assume
we expect listeners to follow news and programming
 information.
 I
also, at this late date and after many requests, have no
clue as to whether the prerecorded Blues Show programming I
have provided to run in our time slot has been loaded onto
Zetta — either the one in the OACR, or the
"inaccessible" implementation that will be running
over several weeks from the transmitter. I feel that I was
assured that the effort was worthwhile and action would be
 taken.
 I've
also been more frustrated than usual with the state of
disrepair and mess in the OACR, and some technical glitches
I've encountered that I'm guessing result from the
way that board settings were changed. I am fairly familiar
with the available documentation in the wiki, but over the
years have found it inadequate or outdated, an especially
difficult situation since for my part I am alone on Sunday
afternoons when technical help is unavailable.
 You've
said that you are encouraging an exchange of comments and
concerns; I hope that includes these. I am a supporter of
the station, and while I'm unsure of the benefits HD
transmitters will bring, I'm hoping there are some other
changes forthcoming that will help us continue to have pride
in WNUR and show up to do shows with enthusiasm.
 Please
let me know what has happened with the Blues Show
programming I have provided in the past and if any further
material can still be loaded onto the transmitter
 Zetta.

 Hey folks,
I wanted to reach out to clear up
some potential confusion around the station's
maintenance and express some of the goals of our executive
board for this quickly approaching Fall.
First, I want to clarify that the
 station will not be
off-air. The physical space of the OACR will be closed
while Gabe and Nick do maintenance for the station and our
transmitters are replaced with brand new ones. Listeners
will still be able to tune into WNUR as the station will be
running from automation. Because the Zetta stock installed
at the transmitter site is not accessible like the
production one in the OACR, whatever is uploaded into Zetta
now will be playing on the air until the maintenance is
completed. I understand that this does not provide the
station with much variety of content over these next few
weeks beyond what our great GM, Brock, has uploaded, but the
 station will remain on-air.
So please inform your listeners that the station will
 be on-air and
 on automation.
This brings up my second topic. I
understand the inflow of frustration and concern about this
brief closing down of the OACR and I appreciated the number
of you who have reached out to express these frustrations
and concerns. I think it's important that these channels
remain open so that you can express these opinions and
suggestions for improvement. It is frustrating that this
closing of the OACR does not allow ample time to adjust for
your listeners and does not allow a great variety of content
in the automation system, however this will pass quickly and
the station will be better from this period.
As a direct result of these next few
weeks, WNUR will have state-of-the-art Nautel transmitters.
As Gabe said, this is a very significant upgrade. These new
transmitters will set the foundation for allowing WNUR to
offer HD radio. This is wonderful news and will benefit all
of us at the station. Apart from the physical maintenance of
these next few weeks, our new executive board will focus on
completing a fully stocked Zetta implementation. If
something like this were to happen again, we will have a
varied body of programming for our listeners that is
 representative of WNUR.
Many have reached out to me
expressing concern about promoting shows in these upcoming
weeks, in a more immediate action I am working with our
Publicity/Outreach Chair, Lois Biggs, in order to send out a
newsletter addressing this brief switch to automation and to
provide a method of promotion for you. Lois will reach out
to you soon asking for information. The turn around for this
 newsletter ought to be quick.
In conclusion, thank you for your
patience and understanding while our station undergoes
maintenance. I am looking forward to the great benefits this
will bring to WNUR. I appreciate the continued feedback and
ask you to please reach out to me by email (nicholasanderson2019@u.
northwestern.edu) or phone (6148176065) with any and all questions,
comments and concerns. In the meantime, let's look
forward and please keep your eyes open for our upcoming Fall
 Programming Meeting.
 All the best,Nick
